Join us in celebrating 50 years in the trade with our very own Director, Paul Robert Burnet.

Paul started his career in Penzance in 1973 at Courts "The Home Furnishing Experience."

Over the years, Paul has increased his knowledge of the retail sector through key developments in brand strategy, statistical analysis, sales, and management, as well as many other retail-focused improvements.

With each new position, Paul has maintained a high level of professionalism and customer satisfaction, which has enabled him to build the hugely successful Now to Bed business in 2023, some 50 years on.

1973 - Courts Ltd, Penzance

At the age of 17, Paul started his sales career in a small shop on Market Jew Street for the well-known and established Courts Furnishing store.

1975 - Courts Ltd, Portsmouth Store

After two years, Paul moved to Portsmouth in a larger store, gaining more experience in the furniture and bedding departments.

1976 - Birmingham, Assistant Manager

Because of his experience and ability to drive sales, Paul was promoted to Sales Manager in the city centre store under his friend Ron Farris.

1978 - Queen Street, Rhyl, Manager

This was Paul’s first role as manager when Courts took over the Rhydwyn Jones Furniture business in North Wales.

1981 - Cardiff, City Centre, Store Manager

Paul was required in Cardiff City Centre, where he spent just over two years running a busy city centre store.

1984 - PJ Furnishings, Vale Road, Rhyl - Owner

Following success at Courts, Paul opened his own business: P J Furnishing Centre in Vale Road, Rhyl.

1986 - PJ Furnishings, Prestatyn, Owner

P J Furnishing outgrew the Rhyl store, moving to Nant Hall Road in Prestatyn into the old Warhurst Store adjacent to Iceland. Eventually, Paul sold the successful business to Buckley Bed Centre.

After selling P J Furnishing, Paul moved to Southern Ireland to run a large bed and sofa business in Clonmel. Before the business folded in 2013, he managed two stores: one in Clonmel and one in Waterford.
